The independent animated series Helluva Boss, which captured millions of fans with its sharp humor, stylized violence, and wildly captivating characters, has just been acquired by Prime Video. The announcement was made during the LVL UP Expo, in a special presentation that also reaffirmed the existence of both series within the same universe.

Created by Vivienne Medrano, Helluva Boss will have its third and fourth seasons produced by Prime Video — a historic step in bringing indie animation into major streaming platforms. The deal also includes a first-look agreement between Medrano and Amazon’s streaming service, opening the doors for new animated projects from Spindlehorse Studios.

According to Prime Video, the first two seasons of Helluva Boss will be released on the platform later this fall, but will remain available on YouTube. However, new episodes will have an exclusive premiere window on Prime Video and will be available in over 240 countries and territories. The platform also made it clear that — unlike Hazbin Hotel — Vivienne will maintain full creative freedom, just like she had on YouTube, with no interference from Amazon.

“I’m extremely grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support our work with Hazbin Hotel and for allowing the Spindlehorse team to expand the Hellaverse with Helluva Boss,” said Medrano. “It’s truly a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re cooking up!”

Set in Hell, the series follows Blitzo (the “o” is silent), the boss of Immediate Murder Professionals (I.M.P.), a murder-for-hire company that accesses the human world thanks to a magic grimoire and a complicated relationship with the demon prince Stolas. Alongside Moxxie, Millie, and Loona, Blitzo navigates bloody contracts and emotional meltdowns, mixing graphic violence, sharp comedy, and surprising emotional depth.

The voice cast features Brandon Rogers, Richard Horvitz, Vivian Williams, Erica Lindbeck, and Bryce Pinkham, alongside special guest appearances by Alex Brightman, James Monroe Iglehart, Cristina Vee, among others.

With the success of Hazbin Hotel and the official expansion of the Hellaverse, the new era of Helluva Boss marks a major turning point for independent animation — now under the global spotlight.
